Violet
Gifford
Jun 18, 1953 — Feb 14, 2022
It is with broken hearts we must share that Violet Gifford passed away on February 14, 2022, leaving behind a gap in the world that may never be filled. She was a proud mama to Sean (Daysha), Tracy (Tom) and Chris (Cassandra), and an unpredictable wife to Ed Hovelkamp. You just never knew what she was going to say, do, or hear. What was entirely predictable was her love for everyone in her life, sometimes expressed in a barely coherent crazy crackle, but most often with something delicious from the kitchen or garden. Or if you were really lucky, a uniquely entertaining visit over a whiskey or fire pit (or both).
Vi couldn't be bothered to filter what she said, or maybe she didn't realize she should, but it never mattered because it always came from a heart of gold, and she was always quick to laugh at her own words, and we would all laugh along with her.
Born in 1953 in Humboldt to Alex Mohninger and Nicolena Pierangeli, Vi will be joining her sister Pat and brother-in-law Les too soon. In addition to her children; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; she leaves her four sisters Gladys (Bill), Brenda, Sharon and Lynn (Greg); and brother Edward to carry on her memory, probably fiercely.
A come-and-go Celebration of Life will be held at the Asquith Seniors' Centre on March 12 at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, please consider sending food for Ed since Mom wouldn't let him cook, and now he's forgotten how.
