It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Shane Alfred Merkl on Friday, December 8, 2023, at the age of 31.

Shane was born in Brooks, AB, on August 15, 1992, to Rhonda and Barry Merkl. He obtained his schooling in Brooks and at the time of his death was working on a Cybersecurity Specialist Diploma.

Shane lived in Brooks most of his life where he had many friends. Shane had a heart of gold and would help anyone in need. He had a great sense of humour and was mechanically inclined. He loved being out at the "Merkl" farm.

Shane was predeceased by his grandma, Margaret Moyer; grandparents, Joe and Margaret Merkl; uncles, Alan and Cameron Merkl; and father, Barry Merkl.

Shane is survived by his mother, Rhonda Merkl (Arnold); brother, Brandon Merkl (Kristin and family); sister, Shala Merkl; as well as Morgan Moyer (Deb), Corey, Mike, Kristopher, and Evan Meyer; Dale Merkl (Darla and family);  Dawn Merkl and family. Shane is also survived by his many friends and his son.
