Obituary

Peter G. Saunderson, age 85, died peacefully on Friday, June 10th in Calgary, Alberta. He was born in Toronto and moved to Maple, Ontario at the age of seven where he enjoyed country living.

After attending elementary school in Maple, Peter continued his education at UTS where he participated in several school team sports and formed many long-lasting friendships. Peter attended Trinity College at the University of Toronto where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts.

Peter was a member of both the Trinity College hockey and football teams and is only one of two people in Trinity College to have been on two championship teams. During his university years, Peter was a member of the UNTD at HMCS York.

Peter had a financial career with several major Canadian chartered banks which eventually brought him and his family to Calgary, Alberta.

Peter remained an avid sports enthusiast his entire life. You could often find him running, playing squash, or working out. His other passion was being in nature. The Rocky Mountains and Georgian Bay held a special place in his heart.

Charitable work was a priority for Peter who worked with several organizations including prisoner visitations, In From the Cold, and others.

Peter is predeceased by his sisters, Peg Harris and Mary Chamberlain; and his former spouse, Sally Saunderson. He is survived by his brother William Saunderson; sister-in-law Meredith Saunderson; and brother-in-law Clive Chamberlain.

Peter will be dearly missed by his three children and their spouses, Patrick (Robin), Anne (Derek) and Kate (Scott), and his nine grandchildren. His easy-going nature and positive outlook endeared him to many. He had a wonderful zest for life that was matched by his compassion and kindness. He was one of a kind.

A funeral service will be held at St. Laurence Anglican Church in Calgary on Friday, June 17th at 1:00 pm. The service will be offered in-person and also via livestream .
