Newton Enderson Philip, known to many as "Newton P aka Spiceman", left this world on September 22, 2023, at the age of 76.

He was born on January 1, 1947, in Trinidad and Tobago, Port O Spain, and raised in Grenada, his journey through life was nothing short of remarkable. Newton was a man of many talents and passions. He was not only a skilled Red Seal welder but also a prolific musician, known for his contributions to the world of calypso music. Under the stage name "Newton P aka Spiceman" he became one of Trinidad and Tobago's finest calypso artists, leaving an indelible mark on the music industry.

Born of humble beginnings, Newton had big dreams, and he pursued them with unwavering dedication. Newton's love for music was only surpassed by his love for life itself. He was a true charmer who preferred the company of females and had a special way of making everyone feel valued and cherished. His charisma and warmth endeared him to all who crossed his path.

In addition to his talents as a musician and welder, Newton was also a skilled farmer. He had a deep connection and dedication to farming, which reflected his strong work ethic and his love for nature. Newton was also known as a man of community spirit. He was an active member of both the Trinidad and Tobago Canadian Association of Calgary and the Grenada/Canada Social and Culture Association of Calgary, where he actively worked to strengthen the bonds of his Caribbean heritage in the Canadian diaspora.

Additionally, he was a dedicated attendee of St. Mark's Church, where his faith played an integral role in his life. In his leisure time, Newton found comfort and joy in the embrace of the ocean. He loved swimming and preferred the vast expanse of the sea, where he felt most at home.

Beyond his music career, farming endeavors, and community involvement, Newton was a loving husband to his wife, Cassandra Perez Philip, and a devoted father to his sons, Anil Philip, Akeem Philip, and Aaron Cromwell (Yvette Perot), and his grandchildren Justus and Cailex.

He cherished his family which includes but is not limited to the Terry's. The Johns, Charles, Perrotte, Gills, and Philips. Newton took pride in being a source of love and support for them. Newton's life was one of resilience and determination. Newton's legacy will live on through his music, his farming, his community contributions, his family, and the countless memories he created with those he loved.

He leaves behind a deep void in the hearts of his family and friends.

Newton Enderson Philip will be remembered not only as a talented musician, skilled welder, and dedicated farmer but as a loving husband, father, and friend who brought joy, harmony, and a sense of community to the lives of many.

A Celebration of Newton's Life will be held on Saturday, October 14, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. at St. Mark Parish (5552 Madigan Drive NE). And to immediately follow @ TTCAC Club (#112 3208 8 Ave NE). Family, friends, food, and music will come together to honor and remember the man who touched our hearts and souls.
