It is with great sadness that the family of Merv Wood announces his passing on Wednesday, February 15, 2023, at the age of 86.

Merv was born in Meopham, Kent to Irene and Fred Wood in 1936. He met the love of his life, Sylvia and they married in 1958. They lived in Longfield Hill, Kent where they started their family. In 1975, they emigrated from England to Calgary with their three children.

Merv was an avid sportsman. He loved cricket and his outstanding ability as a batsman gave him the opportunity to play semi-pro with the Kent Cricket Club in his younger years. He also enjoyed Football (Soccer) and Golf. He was actively involved in his kids' sporting activities, coaching several of their sports teams over the years. Merv and Sylvia also attended countless sporting events for their nine grandchildren. Merv retired from the Insurance industry in 1996. He enjoyed his retirement travelling with Sylvia around the world, golfing, walking, and spending time with his family.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife Sylvia; his daughter Caren (Ed); and his sons, Nick (Sue), and David. He is also loved and missed by his grandchildren, Jenna (Jason), Brooke (Bailey), Alyson, Stefanie, Kyra, Kaitlyn, Tanner, Christian, and Kendra; and great-granddaughter Savanna.

Funeral Service will be held at the Anglican Parish of St. Mark & St. Philip (1802 33 Ave, S.W., Calgary) on Monday, March 13, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. Reception to follow in the Church Hall.
