Nov 2, 1953 — Mar 20, 2020
Landa Lisset Cross passed away on Friday, March 20, 2020 in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, after a long battle with cancer. She was 66 years old.
The sixth child of Miguel Duque and Marta Raquel Duarte. Landa is survived by brothers Filadelfo Augusto Duque, Miguel Ángel Duque, Hérmes Homero Duque, Elba Haydee Duque de Martinez, Edith Castelli, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. She will be sadly missed by all, especially her only daughter Cristal Holland, her husband Kenneth Arnold Cross and his daughters Nancy Louise Valencia, Amy Elizabeth Samcoe and their children.
During her lifetime, this exceptional individual was a teacher, translator, author of eight published books, entrepreneur, consultant, holds a registered Canadian Industrial Design, nine copyrights, seven trademarks, as well as many further accomplishments. As a pioneer in the tourism industry, her life's calling saw her promoting tourism for the Maya-Latin and Caribbean Routes, travelling Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador to connect those countries. She was particularly proud of being presented to Queen Elizabeth II in 1985 in Belize, while part of the Diplomat Corps, and would joke it was the day the Queen met her.
