It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Joyce Heather Schnellback of Calgary, Alberta, at the age of 78 on November 8, 2022.

She is survived by her son Kory (Marilyn) Schnellback; grandchildren Sam and Emily; sisters Doreen Hamvai and Debbie (Gary) Paller; as well as numerous relatives and friends.

She is predeceased by her husband August; her mother Vona le Claire; her father Ted Johnston; and brothers Ray Herold and Eddie Johnston.

Joyce was born April 16, 1944, in  Halifax, but she was raised in Hanna, Alberta, and then moved at age 11 to spend the rest of her life in Calgary.

Joyce began working at a young age as an usher in the movie theater where she would meet her future husband August. They were married in the 1960's and then had their son Kory in 1976.

Throughout her life, Joyce always enjoyed going to the movie theatre. Joyce enjoyed crafts like crocheting, knitting, and needlepoint. She made all sorts of hats and blankets for everyone around her. One of her favorite pastimes in recent years was to play cards and enter crib tournaments with her good friend Ken Chugg.

When her family was young, she enjoyed making trips to B.C. to visit family. She also would enjoy chasing the royal flush in the casino, when she could find the time.

She will be missed and will carry on in our thoughts and memories.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date, likely in the spring near her birthday.
