With gratitude for a life well lived, the family of Hubertus "Bert" Zabel, of Calgary, announces his passing on Monday, May 15, 2023, at the age of 96 years.

Hubertus, fondly known as Bert, was born in Vlaardingen, Holland, on January 10,1927 and immigrated to Canada with his wife, Maria, in 1954. Bert was one of three children.

Bert was the ultimate handyman and loved helping his kids and grandkids with project after project. There wasn't anything he couldn't build or fix!! He was a man of many talents. His greatest joy was time spent with his family sharing his talents and giving of his time.

He is survived by his three children, Marina Caron, Bert (Sjaune) Zabel, and Joe (Leona) Zabel; along with his grandchildren, Lisa (Derek) Avey, Rob (Kim) Caron, Marina Caron, Evan (Bethany) Zabel, Austin Zabel, Bri-Anna Zabel, and Bert Zabel Jr.; as well as four great-grandchildren, Matthew, Brooklynn, Ben, and Aubry. Bert was predeceased by his wife, of 73 years, Maria.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Cambridge Manor Care Facility for the love, care, and respect shown to Bert during his stay there.
