Helen
Giesbrecht
Nov 4, 1934 — Jul 10, 2023
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Helen Giesbrecht, on Monday, July 10, 2023, at Age Care Midnapore in Calgary, Alberta.
Helen was born on November 4, 1934, just north of Saskatoon, and was one of nine siblings. She was no stranger to hard work, in fact, she preferred it that way. Growing up working on the farm in Saskatchewan, spending summers picking fruit in B.C., and tending to the family gas station were probably why she had such a strong work ethic.
After moving to Calgary in the mid-sixties, and raising three boys, Helen decided to make a career out of one of her passions…cooking and baking. For many years Helen worked at neighborhood bakeries and spent several years working in the Culinary Arts Department at SAIT. Helen was most at home in her kitchen, and she was most happy when she could prepare a "way too much food" meal for her family.
Helen is survived by her three boys, Richard (Ruth), Rob (Shelagh), and Roger (Alice); four grandchildren, Rick, Jamie, Daniel, and Amy; and one great-grandchild Olivia. Helen is predeceased by her husband David Giesbrecht.
We would like to thank everyone at Age Care Midnapore for your support and care over the years.
At Helen's request, there will be no funeral but donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Calgary Society at https://www.alzheimercalgary.ca/get-involved/donate-now
