Gerrard Patrick
Silman
Feb 7, 1959 — Sep 28, 2023
Calgary
Peacefully, on Thursday, September 28, 2023, with family at his side, Gerry Silman passed away at the age of 64 years. He was predeceased by his parents Peggy and Bob Sr.; brother Jim (Donna); and nephews, Joe Jr., and Chris. He will be deeply missed by those left to cherish his memory including his devoted wife Lucia; children, Jade, Kana, and James (Maiko); grandson Toma Ren; brothers, Bob (Sharon), Joe (Eve), Mike, and Tom (Fay); numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a lifetime of many friends.
Gerry started his journey into manhood after graduating from Widdifield High School as valedictorian of his graduating class. The second youngest of six boys from a military family, he longed to be in the company of his older brothers and headed west to Winnipeg from North Bay shortly afterwards. After a brief time attending the University of Winnipeg, Gerry answered the invitation of his brother Jim to head off and tame the wild west of Alberta where he would say "men are men and sheep are nervous!". There, under Jim's tutelage, he forayed into restaurant management and quickly excelled in managing several chain establishments over a number of years.
Tragically, during this time, his brother Jim passed, and Gerry took to honour his brother's memory with Jim's close friends and act as an ambassador for the James Silman Memorial Golf Tournament.
Family was everything to Gerry and he showed it through his unwavering efforts to acknowledge and celebrate special family events in person when possible and if not by phone, but more importantly capture memories by way of pictures or reflection at future gatherings.
Moving on to greener pastures, Gerry made his way to Calgary where he started a career in supply chain management/logistics and started a family with Lucia who together recently celebrated 27 years of marriage. Gerry was lovingly accepted into the family with James and Kana, treating them as his own, and later he and Lucia welcomed Jade into the world. Gerry was blessed with a grandson Toma Ren whom he talked about non-stop and cherished greatly.
Gerry had a zest for life and adventure. His natural style and positive manner set the tone for life, love, and especially laughter in his company!
"Bido" will always be fondly remembered and loved greatly by those he left behind!
A private Memorial Service will be held to celebrate his memory for his immediate family.
