Georgina Marion
Whitney
Feb 10, 1931 — May 21, 2024
On the evening of May 21, 2024, Georgina Marion Whitney went to be with our Lord at the age of 93.
Georgina (Georgie, as she usually went by) will be lovingly remembered by her son Philip (Marcy) (Adam, Chelsea, Isaac, and John), son Brian (Hannah), daughter Diane (Terry), daughter Susan (Darrel (Samantha and Christina), 7 grandchildren as well as 11 great-grandchildren and numerous relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband of 67 years, Roy and her sister Marjorie.
Georgie was born to Walter and Helen Lapp in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, where she grew up. Georgie met and married Roy Whitney in Saskatoon and as she would like to say, on the front church steps. She and Roy lived in many places including New Haven, Conn, Kingston, Ont., Winnipeg and Sault Ste Marie, Ont.
After Georgie and Roy raised their four children they retired to Calgary in 1995. Georgie enjoyed various hobbies - gardening, berry picking, reading, painting, playing games, and later in life - writing short stories. She also made many lasting friendships teaching English to new Canadians. She was an accomplished singer and sang in a number of choirs. She and Roy hosted many get togethers as she loved having friends and family around.
Georgie was a sincere and devout Christian. She attended church wherever her life took her and enjoyed being part of a bible study group throughout most of her life. Her last church family was the First Church of the Nazarene.
The family would like to acknowledge and thank all of the wonderful nursing staff who attended to Georgie's needs in her last months at Garrison Green United Active Living and Agape Hospice where Georgie passed.
As Georgina made many friends at Garrison Green it was her wish to have her memorial service there. As such a Celebration of Georgina's Life will be held at Garrison Green United Active Living (3028 Don Ethell Blvd SW) on Saturday, June 22, 2024, at 11:00 a.m.
