It is with profound sadness that the family of Douglas Edward Atkins announces his passing after a long battle with Leukaemia on the morning of June 22, 2023, at Foothills Medical Centre. Doug was a true warrior, fighting with his family by his side right to his last day. Doug was born on February 15, 1956, in Chilliwack, British Columbia to his parents Ruth & Cecil Atkins. The family later moved to Alberta where he grew up alongside his three younger brothers. A talented Journeyman Carpenter, Landscape Artist, and long-time Business Owner. Doug was deeply passionate about his work. He never turned away from a challenge and showed resilience no matter what life threw his way. A natural leader, Doug had a special way of always bringing out the best in those around him.

You could always count on Doug to make new friends wherever he went. He was quick to welcome the girls' friends into the family as his own and was the first to help a friend in need. Doug will always be remembered for his fun-loving nature and his sense of humour. He lived an extremely fulfilling life, having prioritized time to travel, golf, and watch football (Go Steelers!).

A generous and family-oriented man, nothing was more special to Doug than family. Doug will be lovingly remembered by Dianne, his wife of 33 years, his daughters Charli and McKenzi, son-in-law Brandon, and mother-in-law Olive. Doug will be deeply missed by the many loyal friends whom he considered family.

Doug was pre-deceased by his parents Cecil and Ruth Atkins and father-in-law Bob Cunningham.

A special thank you to the staff at High River Hospital and Tom Baker Cancer Center for their care and compassion. A private celebration of life will be held for Doug's close friends and family.
