It is with incredible sorrow we announce the passing of our matriarch, Dorothy Ann "Baba" Kapki.

Dorrie was surrounded by loved ones in her final days and when she passed on January 17, 2022. She was 73.

Dorrie lived a fulfilling life, living mostly in the Calgary area where she met her love Stanley at 18 years old. Their love brought them two children and a handful of grandkids, who they loved dearly.

Dorrie was the kind of person who loved so deeply that everyone she met was pulled into her orbit. She was incredibly kind, patient, and had a strength that helped her family navigate the most challenging of events. Her guiding hand will forever be missed.

Throughout her life, Dorrie held many interesting jobs, but her favorite by far was working as a pet sitter. She got to spend time with so many animals and they all brought her joy. She also had several pets during her time on Earth, and there's no doubt she is being greeted with an impossible number of sloppy, wet kisses on the other side of the rainbow.

She also enjoyed retirement, picking up a few crafty hobbies like creating jewelry and crocheting blankets and pillows for her loved ones. She and Stan had the opportunity to snowbird in Arizona for a handful of years where she met a whole swath of new friends who became her family away from home.

When they ultimately decided to return to Calgary full time, Dorrie and Stan could often be found at their daughter's house for weekly family dinners and games nights. She was competitive and hilarious, which always made those games nights that much more interesting. Dorrie was insanely quotable and her family often resurrects her previous catchphrases over a game of sticks.

More than anything else, Dorrie loved her Lord. She must've known that he had a bigger plan for her and that as much as her family would've loved to keep her a little longer, He had spared her for as long as he could.

While her family is devastated by the loss, they know that she is in a place where there is no pain or suffering and where she can be free of worldly struggles.

A Celebration of Life will be planned for the spring or summer when the family can be safely welcomed to an outdoor space to commemorate Dorrie. Details on that will be revealed at a later date, but if you would like to attend, the family asks that you wear Dorrie's favorite color, green, or something that makes you think of her.

Dorrie is survived by her husband Stan Kapki; children Shona Kapki-Matthewson (Josh Mathewson) and Sean Kapki; grandchildren Kayla (Kenny Mason) and Ireland Butler (Connor Delaney), Carla Kapki and Oakley Matthewson, siblings Margaret Chornawka, Cheryl Borley, and Ritchie Borley, along with several nieces and nephews.
