It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, dad, best friend and mentor Donald Smith on Tuesday August 11th, 2020.

Dad was born on November 21, 1934 in Deloraine, MB to David and Elise Smith. He was predeceased by his parents; his loving wife Christina; his sister Mary (Cope) Kern; and his brother David (Mary) Smith. Dad is survived by his children: Edward (Cheryl), Linda (Dale) and David (Glenda); six grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Marjorie (Bill) Hembroff and Wilma Smith.

Dad made his way west to Calgary where he met Christina, the love of his life. Mom and Dad were married for 62 and a half years. They spent some of their golden years first in a fifth wheel and later in a RV driving to the southern states as snowbirds.

Dad always had a project or two (or 5) on the go. He was happiest in the woodshop making everything from rocking horses for the grandchildren to Kleenex bird houses, or out in the garden growing vegetables for mom to make into pickles or can. Dad was always up for an adventure. Water skiing on Lake Windermere, camping in Radium, hiking in the Grand Canyon, and even a trip on a glass bottom boat in Key West. We had many family moments and lots of memories.

Dad will always be remembered for his sarcastic sense of humor, his unfailing work ethic, his generous smile, and his willingness to help any neighbor, friend, or family member in need. His Memory will be cherished and kept alive in all our hearts.

Service will be held at St. Paul's Catholic Church (1305 Main Street S., Airdrie AB) on Wednesday August 19, 2020 at 2:00pm.
