Cameron James
Harker
Sep 17, 1955 — Feb 8, 2022
After a long battle with numerous health challenges Cam, loving husband of Maxine (Shearlaw-Harker) passed away peacefully at Southwood Hospice on the evening of February 8, 2022. He was predeceased by his parents Max and Gwen; his brother Brad and sister Judy Gillespie. He will be sadly missed by his nephew, Chris (Emma) and their daughters Morgan and Madison; his nephew Braden (Kara) and their children Julia (Jarred) and Paige; and by his sister-in-law, Sharon, niece Stacie and nephew Neil(Jen) and their children Holden and Charlie.
Cam was born in Magrath, Alberta but spent most of his life in Calgary. Cam started his working career as a welder in his dad's company, Control Lighting. From there he advanced into drafting and eventually started his own company, Harker Inspections which serviced the oil and gas industry,
Outdoors was Cam's passion. He loved nothing better than sitting around the campfire with friends. He took great joy in early morning motorcycle rides and afternoons in the peace and serenity of fishing.
At home, he had a special talent for reinventing recipes to make them spectacular. He cherished the companionship of each dog that came into his life. His talent for home and vehicle maintenance stemmed from his childhood quest for wanting to know how things worked. Early coaching from his dad and grandfather set him on this course. His love for chocolate came from his grandmother's wonderful homemade treats.
I want to express my deepest gratitude to both Cam's family and my family for their unwavering support though out the years. As well as friends and neighbours who stepped up to help with yard maintenance, vehicle repairs, snow shoveling, and general home upkeep. There are no words to express how thankful I am to the Doctors, Nurses, and Support staff of the Heart Transplant Team; the LVAD Team; Tom Baker Cancer Team; the Mitchell Eye Centre; Caregivers of Alberta Team; and the Southwood Hospice Team. Although we'll all dearly miss him and we are happy that he is now at peace and his struggles are over.
