Bonny Gayle Lycka of Calgary, Alberta passed away on Friday, March 12, 2021, at the age of 62 years.

Bonny was born in Innisfail, AB on February 9, 1959, the fifth of six children. She lived in Calgary and High River for most of her life.

Bonny had a real knack for gardening and had quite the green thumb. Every year she would produce an impressive display of colourful flowers. She spent hours on her balcony watching the squirrels and birds enjoy her garden blooms and even the deer who would wander by from time to time.

She will be most remembered for her talent for making cakes into pieces of art. Whether it be a towering 3-layer cake that was cut open to reveal a mountain of mini eggs or a monster birthday cake complete with blue fur; her creations were sure to surprise and delight. But most of all she will be remembered for the love and deep connection she shared with her grandson Leon. She truly cherished being called 'Nana' and everything that represented.

Bonny was predeceased by her mother Marguerite McConnell; her two brothers; Arthur James McConnell and Roger McConnell; and her two sisters Rose Michelbrink and Linda Leible.

Bonny is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Kathy Lycka and Dan Piekut; by her son and daughter-in-law, Matthew Wright and Brittany Cote; and her beloved grandson Leon. Bonny is also survived by Brenda Johnson, her life-long best friend of 51 years; her two sisters, Lila McConnell and Kathleen McConnell; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Bonny will be deeply missed.
