Andrew Stephen
Bako
Aug 20, 1951 — Mar 4, 2021
Andrew Bakó passed away suddenly at home on March 4th in his 70th year. He remains in the hearts of both his loving wife Mary Anne Rutherford and beloved daughter Kate Bakó. He leaves behind a grieving mother, Veronica Kent and sister Veronica Bakó, both of Ottawa, as well as godson Nicky Fonay, of Québec. Andrew is pre-deceased by his father Jules Bakó, stepfather Oliver Kent, and his cherished dogs, a Briard and a Shepherd.
Born in Budapest, Hungary, Andrew and his family made the perilous journey to Montreal in 1956, escaping the Soviet invasion. Eventually they moved to Ottawa where Andrew developed his passion for photography.
In the early '80s Andrew moved to Calgary to start a corporate photography business. For years Andrew travelled the world, from Yemen to Hong Kong to Ecuador, taking award-winning photographs for various corporations. His high standards of excellence and amazing creative vision could be seen in his work.
For the past number of years Andrew was a stills photographer, known for his exceptional work on many film and television productions, most notably Heartland, where he was part of the crew for twelve seasons.
Andrew was a loving, sensitive, generous and caring man who saw the best in everyone and made friends and family laugh uncontrollably. He was a lover of music, an inspirational chef, a medical know it all, and a purveyor of the finer things in life. When you look up at the stars remember the constant twinkle in his eyes and ask yourself … is that you watching over us Andy? We hope so.
Kate and Mary Anne are planting a Cherry tree in Andrew's favourite park. We will keep everyone posted on its planting.
